RENOVATING YOUR CARAVAN OR MOTORHOME

Dare we say winter is a thing of the past? Spring is very truly underway. Caravans and motorhomes may not have the TLC they deserve during winter. Here at Secure Storage, we know how important your caravan and motorhomes are to you. You all take pride in their appearance and practicality. If you have found that your caravan or motorhome has been neglected over the winter months, follow our few ideas for renovating your caravan affordably and practically.

Whether you’re looking to completely renovate your caravan or motorhome or simply give it a spring clean, our following few ideas will help.

You’ll need to assess your skill set. Let’s be realistic; you need to have a bit of DIY experience to do a lot of it yourself. It can be time-consuming but worth it.

Take a step back

Take a look at your caravan or motorhome; what needs doing? Can you do it all yourself? Do bear in mind you may need a professional to do things like electrical work. Assess your skill set; what DIY skills do you have? And what can be put to good use? Make a list of all the things that need doing and all the things you want to do – these are two very different lists!

Create a mood board

Putting your ideas down in a visual form will help you see the result and ways you could cut costs, and where to acquire help if needed.

Platforms such as Pinterest are great for collating images of things that might work in your caravan or motorhome. Or do it the old fashioned way with scissors, glue and a big piece of card!

Let’s get started

Maybe your renovation isn’t to improve the visual look of your caravan; perhaps the body word needs attention? Depending on your end goal would depend on what you do next. If you want to simply spruce up your caravan or motorhome, check for rust, cracks in the paintwork, cracks in the flooring, and damage to the furniture.

If you want more of an extensive renovation, let’s refer back to your mood board. Do you have a theme in mind?

Simply reupholstering your furniture will make a massive difference. That doesn’t need to be expensive; you can change the look of your internal furniture with some nice throws or cushions.

Giving your caravan or motorhome a lick of paint may seem tedious, but the results pay off. We would recommend a wipe-clean paint, as caravans and motorhomes can suffer from problems such as condensation – and don’t forget to paint the interior of the main door. Blackboard paint is excellent for this.

Accessorise. Accessorising your caravan or motorhome makes it feel more homely while still adding to the overall look of the caravan. Be it picture frames, wall art, or ornaments; these little touches will make a massive difference in the living space of your caravan.

Now let’s talk about the outside…

With your caravan being in storage for most of the winter, it’s probably got the likes of bird poo, tree debris, dust and generally a little dirty from being stood for months.

It’s all well and good keeping the internal caravan looking pretty but clean on the outside can be just as important. A simple jet wash or good old hand wash is all it usually needs.

Do you plan on giving your caravan or motorhome a little TLC this summer? Whether it be a complete renovation or simply a freshen up. We’d love to see before and after pictures!
