OUR TOP TIPS TO GETTING YOUR CARAVAN READY FOR SPRING

The sun is out, the birds are tweeting, the daffodils are blooming and everyone seems to have a little spring in their step, which can only mean one thing: winter is nearly over!

And, with the end of the cold season comes the start of the new caravan season. You can now bring your caravan out of its winter hibernation and start to plan your future getaways.

Yet, before you travel across the country, it’s essential to make some necessary checks. Here are our top checks that are a must . . .

#1 Check for any damp

During a long period of storage, especially in the winter, which brings harsh weather and rainfall, it can sometimes lead to rainwater creeping into the structure of a caravan or motorhome. Check around the windows, doors and skylights for signs of any leaks and give all upholstery a once over for signs of dampness.

#2 Check the tyres

Caravan and motorhome tyres slowly get damaged when a vehicle stands still for long periods. Check the inside and outside of the tyres thoroughly and look for any cracks. If you spot any cracks, the tyres will need replacing, even if the tread looks unworn. Also, check tyre pressures. It’s important to rotate your caravan’s wheels periodically over winter. This is so that the weight isn’t concentrated on one section of the tyres over a long period of time.

#3 Check the road lights

Nothing could be worse than arriving at your destination and discovering that the lights don’t work. Carefully check each electrical device and outlet within the caravan to ensure everything is in safe working order.

#4 Get a professional service

Regular servicing keeps your caravan in excellent condition, keeping you safe and prolonging its life. We work with Liberty Caravan Services to ensure your caravan or motorhome is safe and running to its best ability. You can request a service here.

Here at Secure Storage South Yorkshire, we operate a storage facility for touring caravans and motorhomes, even boatmobiles! (Although you may want our self-storage facility for that!!)

We also have an ‘essentials’ area in reception, which stocks all the essentials that you would need from toilet cleaners to hatch covers. Feel free to pop in and have a browse.
